29th June 2010
Dear Parents/Carers,
First of all let me thank all of you who attended and helped at our special World Cup sports activity day this month at Dewsbury Stadium. The event was a success with the majority of pupils surveyed afterwards telling us that they preferred this arrangement for our yearly sports event as everyone could take part no matter how good they were at PE, they also enjoyed being in mixed age teams, trying new sports skills, having chance to visit a stadium and being active for the full afternoon.
Events planned for the rest of the year include:
There is an open invitation to you all to our Pyramid Community Arts project in Dewsbury Minster from Friday 2nd July afternoon until Wednesday morning on the 7th July (Saturday & Sunday included). Pupils in all classes have been involved in producing art work based on our community and faiths in collaboration with artist in residence Ruth Fettis. We will be displaying our art work for all to share and hope you will find time to visit our exhibition.
There is also an invitation to you all to attend our ‘Our World’ Summer Concerts on Wednesday 14th July at 2pm or Thursday 15th July at 6pm. Tickets at a cost of £1 per ticket will go on sale at the main office from Monday 5th July daily between 8.30 and 9.am and again from 3.30pm until 4pm. Due to numbers and the size of our hall, each family may have two tickets. Prams & buggies will need to remain outside the school building please. We are delighted to have St Paul’s church luncheon club joining us at our dress rehearsal at 2pm on Tuesday 13th July; any grandparents ( there is no charge for grandparents)who might like to join us then are also welcome if you could confirm with the school office that you will be attending so we can keep an eye on numbers in the hall.
On Friday 9th July we will be taking all pupils on an ‘Around the World’ experience to be held in our school. Each classroom will be representing a different country from around the world and offering opportunity for pupils to find out more about music, art, dance, food and the cultural background of other places. All children can come to school in holiday clothes on the day and they will be given a passport that takes them on their learning journey. We will all meet in the departure lounge of the main hall to plan our trips. Should any parent/ carer be interested in helping out on the day I am sure your child’s class teacher would be keen to hear from you.
On Tuesday 20th July at 9.15am anyone wishing to join us at our St Paul’s Church agape service to mark the leaving of our Year 6 pupils would be most welcome. This new service should last about 45 minutes. The final leaver’s assembly will be on Wednesday 21st July at 9.15am for parents of Year 6 pupils to attend.
Arrangements for next year’s classes have now been confirmed. Changes to staffing arrangements have been done with the importance and need for continuity and stability for pupils who have experienced the most recent staff mobility in mind, a concern expressed by some parents and shared by school. Miss Siobhan Robinson will be with us for one year as class teacher for Class 1, Mrs Kim Beaumont will be teacher of Class 2, Mrs Sue Brooke Mawson will teach Class 3, Mrs Julie Wood will join us fulltime for the year to teach Class 4 and Mrs Janet Thompson will teach Class 5. Mrs Waites and Mrs Holmes will join us both part time to cover classes for staff non contact time. There are still some minor arrangements to be sorted regarding pupil lists for classes as parents are still being consulted, however we expect that you and your child will know who their class teacher is by Friday 9th July at the latest when end of year summary reports come out to parents/ carers. Information will of course be released sooner if this is possible and your child will have chance to visit and spend time with their teacher and class before we break for Summer.
Finally I would like to thank those of you who have supported our school this year, the time you have spent, the efforts you have made on our behalf and the commitment you have shown towards helping our school to improve and provide the best we can for our pupils has been much appreciated. I wish you all a good Summer break,
Yours Sincerely,
Mrs Lindsay Gallagher
